The Certificate in Adult Literacy Tutoring is offered annually by Literacy Aotearoa. It is a part time, Level 5, NZQA approved course and comprises:
- 80 hours contact course work
- 20 hours supervised practicum
The programme covers:
- The historical and contemporary contexts of adult literacy provision in Aotearoa New Zealand
- Adult learning and tutoring
- Literacy tutoring strategies
- Planning, assessment and evaluation
Entry Criteria:
- New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
- Ability to complete a programme of tertiary study at this level
- Interest in doing volunteer tutoring
- Experience working with adults
Course Costs:
- There is no cost to undertake the training on the proviso that the participant commits to volunteer tutor services to Literacy North Shore for 40 hours on completion of all Certificate requirements (in addition to any paid work)
- $1300 (GST inclusive) where the participant does not wish to commit to volunteer tutoring. However it should be noted that as the number of participants is limited to 15 in any one intake, preference will be given to those who are wanting to offer volunteer tutor support to the organisation.
