Take a look at this website that can offer your adult learners the chance to develop their reading skills. Developed to support classroom practice, 20 stories have been written for readers at different skills levels on various topics such as the importance of reading with their children, jobs, the weather, and other topics of interest. Learners listen to stories and read along on the computer for up to three readings, each at a progressively faster pace. There are also printable quizzes and learners can chart their progress.

Last year David Rosen, literacy researcher and technology expert, asked people on the NIFL’s Professional Development and the Poverty, Race and Women listservs for recommendations of a movie or book (such as 'Stand and Deliver') that would inspire teachers to have high
expectations for their young adult students and to give 100% each day to their teaching. There are more than 30 recommended books, films and TV videos on the list each with a short description.
